Functional Allergy Program
Sublingual Immunotherapy

Treat the source of your allergies without needles.

Safe, Easy, Effective and Painless

Do you experience any of these?

nasal discharge, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, watery eyes, cough, wheezing, sneezing, poor concentration, frequent headaches, fatigue, frequent colds, chronic sinusitis, joint pains, muscle aches, asthma, eczema, ear infection, abdominal issues, circles under eyes

We are pleased to offer a needle-free allergy treatment. It is called Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT). By exposing your body to small amounts of the allergen, over time, your body learns to ignore them. As this process continues, the immune system learns to stop overreacting to them and they will go away. Rather than the needle prick of a shot to start the desensitizing process, you simply place a drop of the medication under your tongue every day. The ability to do this procedure at home daily, makes it much more convenient than traditional needle-prick therapy.

Shots are effective but have several disadvantages, the two most important being discomfort and potential adverse reactions. This has led doctors to seek alternative means of treating allergy.

Are allergy drops safe?

Allergy drops have been used in Europe for 60 years and have been highly studied for safety and efficacy.

They have been proven to be a safe and effective alternative to allergy shots. Some minor local reaction can occur, but there have been no reported cases of anaphylaxis with specific dosing of the program.

When will I see results?

You will work up to maintenance dose over a 3-month period. You will take the drops every day. Many patients will notice an improvement in their symptoms within 3-6 months. Typically, patients are on therapy for 3 to 5 years depending on the severity of the symptoms.

Who would benefit from allergy drops?

  • Those with multiple sensitivities
  • Those with food and mold allergies
  • Those with multiple allergies to dust, dust mite, trees, grasses and animals

Will insurance cover the costs?

Insurance covers the cost of seeing your practitioner for all related services, which included testing and any office visit charges.

Insurance does not cover the cost of the drops. This cost is $200 every three months.

What are the advantages of SLIT?

  • they are painless
  • convenience due to home dosing
  • proven far safer than shots
  • lower cost, with fewer clinic visits
  • faster onset of symptoms relief

How do I begin?

You will meet with one of the providers at the clinic. Allergy testing will be done by either skin or serum. The program will be described in detail. You will be given the first drops in the office to make sure you have no questions and you are doing it properly. Our office will then see you in one month and every three months after that. As part of this functional allergy program, you will also meet with our nutritionist and be given dietary recommendations as part of this comprehensive program.
